Stay-at-home coping strategies for households

Mar 24th 2020

The impact of school, business and workplace closures, and social distancing will be different for every household on a practical and psychological level. Here are some extra coping strategies to make your life a little easier.

Physical fitness
By Joe Wicks AKA ‘The Body Coach’
Over 950,000 households tuned in to Joe’s first live PE session via his YouTube channel. This is day one of daily workouts – a free 30-minute exercise is aimed at children home from school, but of course relevant to all. A great way for house-bound children to stay active.

And not forgetting seniors… here is a free 10-minute chair workout by The Body Coach. This short home session is designed for seniors or for anyone looking for something a bit lighter.

Maths and science workouts for home-bound children
Carol Vorderman’s maths school is usually £2 a week but is now free for children age 4-12 until schools open. Carol will teach your child Maths that is matched to the National Curriculum.

The CK-12 Foundation provides school closure resources for remote learning. Hand-picked lessons in math and science. Explore and share the sessions relevant to you. As always, the resources are free.

Audible stories – 100s of kids’ audiobooks for free
For as long as schools are closed, children can stream an incredible collection of stories, across six languages, to help them continue dreaming, learning and just be kids. All stories are free to stream on desktop, laptop, phone or tablet. Start listening.

That’s when good neighbours become good friends
Never have these sentimental words been more apt. “I’ve taken to meeting the neighbours for coffee every day. I’ve discovered one side has loo rolls and the other has pasta, so we’re good for a bit.” How Chiswick Churches are supporting the vulnerable and isolated. Plus videos of churches live-streaming services.
